Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement 7X

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 15969  Size: SH
  1. Turn the steering wheel fully to the left.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the right tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
  5. Remove the CKP sensor bolt.
  6. Remove the CKP sensor.
  7. Inspect for wear, cracks, or leakage if the CKP sensor is not being replaced.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil before installation and replace if damaged.

  2. Object Number: 15969  Size: SH
  3. Install the CKP sensor.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the CKP sensor bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  7. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
  8. Install the right tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Perform the crankshaft position (CKP) system variation learn procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .

Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement 24X CKP Sensor

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 14714  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information
  2. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  3. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  4. Remove the sensor from the bracket.
  5. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  6. Note the routing of the sensor harness before removal.
  7. Remove the harness retaining bolt (4) and the clip (3).
  8. Remove the CKP sensor bolts (4).
  9. Remove the CKP sensor (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 14714  Size: SH
  1. Install the 24X crankshaft position sensor (1) to the front cover.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the CKP sensor bolts (4).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Install the harness retaining clip (3) with bolt (4).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt (4) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
  8. Install the CKP sensor harness to the bracket.
  9. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.1L.
  10. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Perform the crankshaft position (CKP) system variation learn procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .
