Problem

Action

The power steering system has air in it.

  1. Inspect the power steering system.Refer to Power Steering System Inspection .
  2. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

The steering column universal joints are loose.

  1. Inspect the steering column universal joints. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  2. Inspect the steering column universal joints. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

The rack bearing preload is improperly adjusted.

Tighten the rack bearing preload to specification.

The power steering gear is loose.

  1. Inspect the power steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
  2. Retorque or replace the power steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The tie rod ends are loose.

  1. Inspect the tie rod ends.
  2. Replace the tie rod ends.

The tie rod ends are loose.

  1. Inspect the tie rod ends.
  2. Replace the tie rod ends.
