WHEEL DISC SEPARATION WITH PA1 WHEEL DISC OPTION

SOME EARLY PRODUCTION PA1 WHEEL DISCS (STANDARD DISC ON CUTLASS CIERA MODELS,) HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO SEPARATE DURING COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE SEPARATION INVOLVES THE ROUND BRUSHED STAINLESS STEEL PLATE WHICH IS BONDED TO THE PLASTIC CENTER SECTION OF THE DISC ASSEMBLY. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD BE USED TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION WHEN ALL OF THE PARTS CAN BE RECOVERED: 1.IF THE PLATE IS STILL ATTACHED TO THE DISC ASSEMBLY AT THE CENTER TABS, BEND TABS BACK AND COMPLETELY REMOVE PLATE. 2.FROM BACK SIDE OF PLATE, BEND MEDALLION RETAINING TANGS OUT AND REMOVE MEDALLION. BEND TANGS BACK INTO PLACE FOR USE IN REINSTALLING MEDALLION. 3.REMOVE ADHESIVE FROM PLASTIC CENTER BODY OF DISC. APPLY DOUBLE FACED MOLDING ADHESIVE TAPE, SUCH AS KENT INDUSTRIES SM-T 40400, 3M 021200-06376-X, OR EQUIVALENT TO AREA WHERE ORIGINAL ADHESIVE WAS REMOVED. LOCATE PLATE IN CORRECT POSITION AND PRESS FIRMLY INTO PLACE. SEE FIG. 2. 4.DRILL TWO 1/8" HOLES IN CENTER OF DISC ASSEMBLY FROM FRONT OF DISC IN THE AREA THAT THE MEDALLION WILL COVER, OPPOSITE THE PLATE CENTER RETAINING TABS. HOLES SHOULD NOT BE ENLARGED AS THE RIVETS MUST FIT TIGHTLY. SEE FIG. 2. 5.INSTALL 1/8" X 3/8" RIVETS FROM FRONT OF DISC, USING WASHERS ON THE BACK SIDE TO PREVENT SPLITTING THE PLASTIC. REINSTALL THE MEDALLION BY TAPPING INTO PLACE. WARRANTY INFORMATION LABOR OPERATION NUMBER FRONT E0022 REAR E0023 ALL E0027

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
