HARD HOT START CUT 'O' RING - 2.5L

A HARD HOT START CONDITION ON EFI EQUIPPED CARS MAY BE CAUSED BY A CUT IN THE LARGE INJECTOR "O" RING SEAL. TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, REMOVE THE INJECTOR ASSEMBLY AND INSPECT THE LARGE "O" RING SEAL. IF THE SEAL IS CUT, INSPECT THE SOLENOID VENT HOLE ON THE SIDE OF THE INJECTOR ASSEMBLY FOR THE PRESENCE OF A BURR (FIG. 7). REMOVE ANY BURRS FROM THE VENT HOLE AREA BEFORE REPLACING THE LARGE "O" RING SEAL. LUBRICATE THE "O" RINGS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE IN SECTION 6E2, PAGE 6E2-60 OF THE 1982 OMEGA AND CUTLASS CIERA SERVICE MANUAL TO REPLACE THE SEAL. WHEN PRESSING THE INJECTOR ASSEMBLY INTO THE INJECTOR BODY, APPLY PRESSURE AWAY FROM THE SOLENOID VENT HOLE SO THAT SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE IS MAINTAINED BETWEEN THE VENT HOLE AND THE LARGE "O" RING SEAL. THE PARTS NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS REPAIR CAN BE OBTAINED BY ORDERING GASKET KIT PART NO. 17068990.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
