During repairs to the final drive system, the earlier design park gear bearing (695), could fall out of position and damage the final drive bearing, extension housing, or all wheel drive (AWD) case.

Effective January 31, 2005 (Julian date 5031), a new park gear (696), park gear bearing (695), and final drive sun gear shaft (689) were released for production to eliminate the possibility of the bearing falling out of the bearing pocket. The bearing pocket on the park gear has been cut deeper to accept the thicker park gear bearing. The final drive sun gear shaft (689) was also changed to accept the new park gear and bearing.

Notice: The all wheel drive (AWD) park gear (696) is different from the front wheel drive (FWD) applications. Refer to the service parts catalog for correct model usage. Do not mix AWD and FWD park gears as damage will occur.

The new final drive sun gear shaft (689) and the park gear thrust bearing (695) are common for all applications. However, the park gear (696) is different between all wheel drive (AWD) and front wheel drive (FWD) applications.
